“I love this camp a lot, it’s really fun. For a five star rating, I’d give this camp at least a 12!”

“It actually makes me feel like I’m not the only one!”

Thank you for all the hard work, dedication and love that everyone involved with Heart Heroes Camp put in to make this first year so memorable for Maya. From the moment our daughter arrived, to the last moments when I had to tear her away from you all. It was a true comfort to know that we are sending our child to a camp where they allowed our heart heroes to just be children. To experience summer camp and all it entails and to help them develop confidence, courage, independence, pride, and pure happiness. To see many of the medical professionals in a setting outside the hospital and offices and make friends with them. I know our next visit to heart clinic will have Maya on full alert looking for all your lovely faces.”

“We enthusiastically registered our twelve year old son Austin, who is a heart transplant recipient and stroke survivor, for the Little Heart Heroes camp soon after registration opened as we fell in love with the vision for it. When we arrived at camp to drop Austin off, we were immediately impressed and reassured to see that we recognized many of the volunteers as trusted medical personnel from the Stollery.  We were also impressed with the meticulous manner in which medications were collected and organized for administration.  It didn’t take us long to realize that all of the details for the weekend had been organized with this same level of excellence.  The air of excitement was contagious and we left feeling confident that it was going to be a great weekend for all of the campers!

When the camp weekend was over and we went to pick Austin up, we were greeted by volunteers who were genuinely excited and enthusiastic to share Austin’s adventures and accomplishments with us.  It brought tears to our eyes. In those moments, we saw that not only was this a wonderful experience and opportunity for Austin but also for the doctors and nurses who have seen him through some of his most difficult days. To say that he was in capable and competent hands would be an understatement.

From challenging himself to participate in new activities, to making new friends and taking responsibility for some of his own routines, Austin’s camp experience has changed him in a positive way. It was a great stepping stone in his development, giving him increased confidence.  Camp was a truly wonderful experience for Austin. It also increased our confidence in realizing that Austin could experience this wonderful adventure in a safe and fun-filled environment.

From the bottom of our hearts – thank you!”
